Steve Jackson ,Ian Livingstone Warlock of Firetop Mountain - Fighting Fantasy 1
FIGHTING FANTASY is the brilliant series of adventure gamebooks in which YOU are the hero! Decide which monsters to fight, which paths to take, who to trust and when to run. Can you survive the clutches of the hideous Bloodbeast, or defeat a noxious inhuman Orc? Several adventurers like yourself have set off for Firetop Mountain in search of the Warlock's hoard. None has ever returned. Do you dare follow them?
Fighting Fantasy 27 - Curse Of The Mummy
Another exciting Fighting Fantasy adventure. Beware the Curse of Akharis!
In this second (re-edited) Jonathan Green adventure, originally printed as the 59th and last original Penguin gamebook, you find yourself in popular setting of Allansia within the south-western cityport of Rimon.
After an ancient tomb is unearthed belonging to the Akharis, a legendary ruler from the ancient kingdom of Djarat (a nation state that originated from the ruined empire Irritarian empire of Granat) you are single-handedly given the quest from a short-lived companion: to stop the evil Cult of the Cobra from resurrecting the evil mummy Akharis.
From the city port, you explore and travel the lands north of Rimon, ruins by an oasis, and finally the tomb itself to the mummy's burial chamber and beyond.
The adventure provides a good selection of unique undead encounters, such as Akharis himself, mummies, spirits (and a supporting cast of cultists), a high priestess, snakes and other desert-themed enemies. Like many of Ian Livingstone's books, the adventure provides ample opportunity to collect items, some of which are red herrings, whilst others are most certainly not.
Talisman Of Death
The once peaceful world of Orb is in terrible danger. Dark forces are at work to unleash the awesome might of the Evil One - and only YOU can stop them. YOUR mission is to destroy the Talisman of Death before the dark lord's minions reach you. But beware! Time is running out!
This book is set in the world of Orb, and is one of the two Fighting Fantasy books written by the team of Jamie Thomson and Mark Smith who went on to have fame with another series of adventure books in the 1980's and 1990's known as Fabled Land and The Crystal Maze.
The adventure sees you visit towns and caverns in order to reach the ultimate destination of your quest. On your way you will have to dispose of some very tough characters and solve some nasty puzzles. There are many tricks put in place by thieves and deities alike, and only the toughest may overcome them. The dark side creatures you will come across have all sorts of extra features to them that will leave the unwary adventurer dead in a heap in no time at all.
Unique to this adventure is the fact that on certain occasions when you die, there will be the opportunity of a resurrection. This means that once you get halfway though you can sometimes go back if you make a mistake without having to negotiate the town again.
There are plenty of interesting characters that you will meet on more than one occasion on your journey. These pop up constantly to try and thwart you, and this is not an adventure in which low skill scores will take you to your goal. Keeping the talisman is also a trying experience, and it is not long before you will find that you lose it, and recovering it can be the toughest part.
