Improving Health and Social Cohesion through Education Book
Centre for Educational Research and Innovation OECD | 17 Sep 2010 | ISBN: 9264086302 | 222 pages | PDF | 1 MB This report addresses challenges in assessing the social outcomes of learning by providing a synthesis of the existing evidence, original data analyses and policy discussions. The report finds that education has the potential to promote health as well as civic and social engagement. Education may reduce inequalities by fostering cognitive, social and emotional skills and promoting healthy lifestyles, participatory practices and norms. These efforts are most likely to be successful when family and community environments are aligned with the efforts made in educational institutions. This calls for ensuring policy coherence across sectors and stages of education.

The History of Special Education: From Isolation to Integration Book
Publisher: Gallaudet University Press | pages: 478 | 1993 | ISBN: 1563680181 | CHM | 12,5 mb This book is one of the best written and researched books on education that I've had the good luck to come across. Winzer did a phenomenol job on what could be a dry subject. She also provides a great bibliography section which can further be used for references and research. I came across this book while doing research on deaf education and eugenics in the U.S. Not only does she have all the information that I had previously seen in books on the eugenics movement, but she provides more details and further references that the other books did not provide. The struggle for educational equality for those with disabilities has been a long, ongoing battle.

The New Institutionalism in Education Book
State University of New York Press | June 2007 | 234 pages | English | ISBN : 0791469069,0791469064 | PDF | 1.2MB The New Institutionalism in Education brings together leading academics to explore the ongoing changes in K-12 and higher education in both the United States and abroad. The contributors show that current educational trends--including the increased globalization of education, the growing emphasis on educational markets and school choice, the rise of accountability systems, and the persistent influence of business groups like textbook manufacturers and test makers on educational policy--can best be understood when observed through an institutional lens. Because schools and universities are organizations that are stabilized by deeply institutionalized rules, they are subject to the enduring problem of substantive educational reform. This book gives researchers and policy analysts conceptual tools and empirical assessments to gauge the possibilities for institutional reform and innovation.

The Transfer of Learning: Participants' Perspectives of Adult Education And Training Book
Publisher: Gower Publishing Company 2006 | 131 Pages | ISBN: 0566087340 | PDF | 2 MB This book addresses a crucial issue for all involved in education and training: the transfer of learning to new and different contexts. Educators, employers and learners face the problem of ensuring that what is learnt in the classroom is able to be adapted and used in the workplace. The book focuses on adult learners in professional and vocational contexts. The authors aim to provide an accessible book on the transfer of learning which draws on multi-disciplinary perspectives from education, psychology and management. The book is intended to be useful both for postgraduate students and for practitioners wanting to deepen their understanding of transfer and for those interested in practical applications. It combines theory and practice from international research and the authors' own case studies of transfer involving learners engaged in professional development and study towards qualifications. Theories of adult learning, change and lifelong learning are discussed in relation to the transfer of learning. The purpose of this book is to emphasise to tertiary educators and trainers the importance of transfer and in doing so highlight the participants' voices as central foci in coming to an understanding of the process. By doing this, it will balance the literature which has to date emphasized transfer from a trainer's and/or organization's perspective. There has been little if any substantive material on tertiary transfer issues and yet demands are increasing for tertiary education providers to be more accountable and more focused on developing students' ability to use their learning in everyday work situations. The book is unique in that it adopts a phenomenological perspective and underscores the significance of the participants' voices in understanding issues.

Values, Education and the Adult Book
Routledge; 1 edition | February 2, 2010 | ISBN-10: 0415563593 | 320 pages | PDF | 1.25 Mb In this study of the main conceptual and normative issues to which the education of the adult gives rise, the author demonstrates that these issues can be understood and resolved only by coming to grips with some of the central and most contentious questions in epistemology, philosophy of mind, ethics, and social philosophy. A salient feature of the book is its searching examination of the different types of value judgement by which all educational discourse is permeated. The analysis of the nature and justification of educational judgements forms the basis of an overall philosophy of adult education which should provide a much needed axiological framework for the guidance of practitioners in this growing area of educational concern.
