An Introduction to AI Robotics
This text covers all the material needed to understand the principles behind the AI approach to robotics and to program an artificially intelligent robot for applications involving sensing, navigation, planning, and uncertainty. Robin Murphy is extremely effective at combining theoretical and practical rigor with a light narrative touch. In the overview, for example, she touches upon anthropomorphic robots from classic films and science fiction stories before delving into the nuts and bolts of organizing intelligence in robots. Following the overview, Murphy contrasts AI and engineering approaches and discusses what she calls the three paradigms of AI robotics: hierarchical, reactive, and hybrid deliberative/reactive. Later chapters explore multiagent scenarios, navigation and path-planning for mobile robots, and the basics of computer vision and range sensing. Each chapter includes objectives, review questions, and exercises. Many chapters contain one or more case studies showing how the concepts were implemented on real robots. Murphy, who is well known for her classroom teaching, conveys the intellectual adventure of mastering complex theoretical and technical material.
An Instructor's Manual including slides, solutions, sample tests, and programming assignments is available to qualified professors who are considering using the book or who are using the book for class use.
Theory of Applied Robotics
Theory of Applied Robotics: Kinematics, Dynamics, and Control 2E is appropriate for courses in robotics that emphasize kinematics, dynamics, and control.
The contents of this book are presented at a theoretical-practical level. It explains robotics concepts in detail, concentrating on their practical use. Related theorems and formal proofs are provided, as are real-life applications. Students, researchers, and practicing engineers alike will appreciate this user-friendly presentation of a wealth of robotics topics, most notably orientation, velocity, and forward kinematics.
The second edition includes updated and expanded exercise sets and problems, new coverage includes, Components and Mechanisms of a Robotic Systems with actuators, sensors and controllers and updated and expanded material on Kinematics including geometric kinematics, Derivative Kinematics, velocity kinematics, and new coverage on sensing and control including position sensors, speed sensors and acceleration sensors.
Probabilistic Robotics
Probabilistic robotics is a new and growing area in robotics, concerned with perception and control in the face of uncertainty. Building on the field of mathematical statistics, probabilistic robotics endows robots with a new level of robustness in real-world situations.
This book introduces the reader to a wealth of techniques and algorithms in the field. All algorithms are based on a single overarching mathematical foundation. Each chapter provides example implementations in pseudo code, detailed mathematical derivations, discussions from a practitioners perspective, and extensive lists of exercises and class projects. The books Web site, http://www.probabilistic-robotics.org, has additional material.
The book is relevant for anyone involved in robotic software development and scientific research. It will also be of interest to applied statisticians and engineers dealing with real-world sensor data.
Service Robotics and Mechatronics: Selected Papers of the International Conference on Machine Automation ICMA2008
In a world suffering from an ageing population and declining birth rate, service robotics and mechatronics have an increasingly vital role to play in maintaining a safe and sustainable environment for everyone. Service Robotics and Mechatronics discusses the increasingly sophisticated technologies that are able to take human psychology and movement into account in order to support mankind both at work and at home. Mechatronics can also be used in the reconstruction or restoration of various environments which we rely upon to survive; for example the reconstruction of a city after an earthquake, or the restoration of polluted waters
This collection of papers was originally presented at the 7th International Conference on Machine Automation, 2008, in Awaji, Japan, and covers a variety of new trends in service robotics and mechatronics.
Service Robotics and Mechatronics showcases the latest research in the area to provide researchers and scientists with an up-to-date source of knowledge and basis for further study, as well as offering graduate students valuable reference material.
Springer Handbook of Robotics
With the science of robotics undergoing a major transformation just now, Springer??Ts new, authoritative handbook on the subject couldn??Tt have come at a better time. Having broken free from its origins in industry, robotics has been rapidly expanding into the challenging terrain of unstructured environments. Unlike other handbooks that focus on industrial applications, the Springer Handbook of Robotics incorporates these new developments.
New Developments in Robotics Automation and Control
This book addresses several issues related to the introduction of automaton and robotics in the construction industry in a collection of 23 chapters. The chapters are grouped in 3 main sections according to the theme or the type of technology they treat. Section I is dedicated to describe and analyse the main research challenges of Robotics and Automation in Construction (RAC). The second section consists of 12 chapters and is dedicated to the technologies and new developments employed to automate processes in the construction industry.
Introduction to Robotics: Mechanics and Control
This introduces the science and engineering of mechanical manipulation. New material on CAD-CAM and Controls include: Manipulator Mechanism Design, Linear Control of Manipulators, and Off-Line Programming Systems. A thorough treatment of the fundamental skills underlying the use and control of manipulators.
Robotics A Reference Guide To The New Technology
Although advanced technologies are the cornerstone of modern life, few people understand how such technologies as robotics or nuclear science actually work. Fewer still realize how--and how dramatically--technology influences our society and culture. Robotics is a reference guide that provides nonspecialists with the most up-to-date information on seminal developments in the technology of robotics, as well as covering the social, political, and technical impacts of those developments on everyday life, both now and in the future.
Anatomy of a Robot (TAB Robotics)
This work looks under the hood of all robotic projects, stimulating teachers, students, and hobbyists to learn more about the gamut of areas associated with control systems and robotics. It offers a unique presentation in providing both theory and philosophy in a technical yet entertaining way
Robotics: Science and Systems V
Robotics: Science and Systems V spans a wide spectrum of robotics, bringing together researchers working on the foundations of robotics, robotics applications, and the analysis of robotics systems. This volume presents the proceedings of the fifth annual Robotics : Science and Systems conference, held in 2009 at the University of Washington in Seattle. The papers presented cover a range of topics, including manipulation, locomotion, machine learning, localization, visual SLAM, haptics, and biologically inspired design. The conference and its proceedings reflect not only the tremendous growth of robotics as a discipline but also the desire in the robotics community for a flagship event at which the best of the research in the field can be presented.
