THYRISTORS Notes: The term Thyristor defines a broad range of solid-state components which are used as electronically controlled switches. Each of these devices can switch between a conducting (on) state and a non-conducting (off) state to effectively pass or block electrical current. Some Thyristors are capable of switching currents flowing in one direction while others can switch currents flowing in either direction.
