This page describes how DC motors work, and how we can use them to build the traction system of a robot. It covers both permanent magnet motors, and series wound motors (such as car starter motors).
Speed Controllers
The purpose of a motor speed controller is to take a signal representing the demanded speed, and to drive a motor at that speed. The controller may or may not actually measure the speed of the motor.

The principle of vector control of electrical drives is based on the control of both the magnitude and the phase of each phase current and voltage. For as long as this type of control considers the three phase system as three independent systems the control will remain analog and thus present several drawbacks.
